2018 Fall Courses

The Underground Academy of Cinematic Arts offers semester courses in Film, Television, and Film Studies. Students in high school and/or between the ages of 15-19 are eligible to register for classes. Students who come through the program can apply for flexible art credit through the State of Ohio. The Underground is currently pursuing college credit with partnering universities.

For the Fall, The Underground is offering two courses: Introduction to Television and Introduction to Film. Each course meets 4 hours a week for 12 weeks. The 2018 Fall semester begins the week of September 17 and ends the week of December 10. There will be no classes the week of November 19 due to Thanksgiving break.

 

CAF 101: Introduction to Film

Days: Monday, Wednesday
Time: 3:30 to 5:30 pm

Course Description

Introduction to Film focuses on visual storytelling. Students learn to both interpret films and produce films that involve a three-act story structure with strong characters, conflict, rising action, climax, and resolution.The course introduces students to the filmmaking process, including scriptwriting, storyboarding, filming, directing, and editing. In addition, students explore the use of composition, camera angles, and shots to direct music videos, film essays, and/or short narrative films.

 

CATV 101: Introduction to Television

Days: Tuesday, Thursday
Time: 3:30 to 5:30 pm
Instructor: Ann Brinkmann
Cost: $600

Course Description

Introduction to Television introduces students to the fields of broadcast journalism and television production. Students learn how to track down stories, film interviews, light subjects, and create films that capture emotion through human-interest stories. Film projects include commercials, public service announcements, and news stories.
